If not the latest, download the latest Android firmware (upgrade.zip) to a PC
Copy the update.zip file to the root directory of a USB stick formatted in FAT32.
Alternatively, go to the Chromium browser on the BDL screen to download the firmware file straight to the screen.
Download the update.zip.. You'll find the downloaded file in //internal/Download
Move the update.zip file to the root //internal/ directory.
Plug in the USB drive to the screen.
Press the following remote control button sequence to access the Android menu: HOME, 1, 8, 8, 8
Navigate to Settings ⇾ Signage Display ⇾ System Updates ⇾ Local update and press OK to initiate the firmware update. The screen will restart upon completion of the firmware update.
Some USB drives do not get detected by the screen. If the screen fails to recognise the update file, try a different USB drive.
Verify the firmware has been updated by pressing INFO, 7, 7 buttons on the remote.
Philips recommends a factory reset after a FW update has been performed.
However, doing so will wipe out all the apps installed and all Android settings.
Most of the time, not doing a factory reset will not cause issues.
If you do have apps running in Android, it is best to test the screen's behaviour without performing a factory reset.
Press the following remote button sequence to enter the factory mode: HOME, 1, 9, 9, 9, BACK
Navigate to Factory Reset setting and press OK.
Select YES to confirm and initiate the factory reset process. The screen will turn off after the reset has been completed.
Turn off the power to the screen from the mains power switch and turn it on again.
Troubleshooting
- Some USB drives do not get detected by the screen. If the screen fails to recognise the update file, try a different USB drive.
- The file update.zip is not in the root directory or a USB stick. Should look like this:
Not like this: - The USB stick wasn't formatted to FAT32. It's formatted to NTFS or exFAT or it was formatted in an Apple computer with a virtual Windows environment
- The USB stick is bigger than 32Gb. Needs to be less than 32Gb, ideally 4Gb or 8Gb.
