If you are experiencing connection issues or spurious noises such as rhythmic subwoofer thumps, hissing or buzzing from your optional SR1 surround speakers, the likely fix is a firmware update.

Make sure you download Google Home app and follow the in-app instructions to connect the Polk MagniFi MAX to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network. You can follow the instructions on https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7029485 to connect your MagniFi MAX to your Google home app.

Procedure for setting up or resetting firmware:

  1. Install Google Home app and connect to MagnifiMax if not already done so.
Possible issue: Polk Magnifi Mini/Max "This Device was manufactured for a different country" message when adding to Google Home
  2. Ensure the soundbar is powered on, subwoofer is on and, if purchased, SR1 surrounds are on.
  3. On the rear of the soundbar below the Wifi light and beside the USB port is a small reset button. Press and hold down this button for about 15 seconds; you will hear 2 audible 'dings'. This is your confirmation that the reset has occurred and the update will take place.
Note: it is a good idea the start this process before bed so that the update can occur overnight. Updates occur in USA time. A hissing or buzzing noise from the SR1 surrounds may occur. This is normal and will cease in due course.
  4. Reconnect to your Google Home app. On the settings icon in the app check that the firmware version is the latest and set up the soundbar again.
  5. Once complete, resync subwoofer and optional SR1 if it hasn't happened automatically. Press the Sync button on the subwoofer and SR1 to achieve this. After a short moment, you may see some white lights glowing on and off on the soundbar. This means that the firmware is being fed to the speakers. This will take several minutes and the soundbar will turn off automatically when complete.
  6. Leave the bar alone for about 15 minutes.
  7. Turn on the soundbar. It should be working as normal.
