ND5 XS2 / NDX 2 — no audio from RCA output
Overview
A common setup issue where the ND5 XS2 (or NDX 2) appears to be working correctly in the Naim App but produces no audio through the connected amplifier. This is almost always caused by the analogue RCA output not being enabled in the Naim App settings, and can be resolved in under two minutes.
Symptoms
- Naim App shows music playing and progress bar moving, but no sound from speakers
- No audio from RCA-connected amplifier (e.g. Cambridge Audio CXA81 or similar)
- Volume control in app responds but no output
Solution — enable the RCA output in Naim App
- Open the Naim App on your phone or tablet
- Tap the ND5 XS2 (or NDX 2) device on the home screen
- Tap the Settings icon (cog/gear) for that device
- Navigate to Outputs
- Enable the Analogue (RCA) output toggle
- Return to playback — audio should now come through the RCA connection
Note: The RCA output is disabled by default on some firmware versions. It must be manually enabled after first setup or after a factory reset.
Also check
- The correct input is selected on the connected amplifier (e.g. ensure the amp input matches the RCA connection, not a digital input)
- The RCA cables are firmly seated at both ends
- The amp is not in mute or in a different input mode
If the output is already enabled but still no audio
- Check RCA cable continuity by swapping with a known-good cable
- Try a different input on the amplifier
- Perform a factory reset on the ND5 XS2 (Settings > Factory Reset in the Naim App) and re-enable the RCA output
- If issue persists after reset, log a hardware fault ticket with Westan Naim support including serial number and description
