Overview

This article covers how to update the Android System WebView on a Philips BDL4550D display. The latest supported WebView version for this model is 138.0.7204.168. The update is installed via USB and Parallels Desktop (PD).

 

Step 1 — Download the WebView APK

Download the APK file from the following link: APKPure — WebView 138.0.7204.168

 

Note: Make sure you download version 138.0.7204.168 specifically — this is the latest version confirmed to be supported by the BDL4550D.

 

Step 2 — Transfer APK to USB Drive

1.    Once the download is complete, locate the APK file on your computer.

2.    Copy the file to a USB drive.

3.    Safely eject the USB drive before connecting it to the display.

 

Step 3 — Install via Parallels Desktop

4.    Connect the USB drive to the display.

5.    Open Parallels Desktop (PD) on the device.

6.    Navigate to Storage within Parallels Desktop.

7.    Locate the WebView APK file on the USB drive.

8.    Select the file and follow the on-screen prompts to install it.

 

Step 4 — Verify the Installed Version

After installation, confirm the correct version is active:

 

9.    Go to Settings.

10.  Select System.

11.  Tap Developer Options.

12.  Select WebView implementation.

13.  Confirm that the version shown is 138.0.7204.168.

 

Expected result: Developer Options > WebView implementation should display Android System WebView version 138.0.7204.168.

Resolution

APK file not visible in Storage

Ensure the USB drive is properly connected and formatted (FAT32 recommended).

Version not updating after install

Reboot the display and re-check Developer Options.

Installation blocked / not permitted

Confirm Developer Options is enabled on the device before attempting install.

Version showing higher than 138.0.7204.168

Only version 138.0.7204.168 is confirmed supported. Do not install newer versions without TPV confirmation.
