xxHFL5011 NVM Reset Procedure

xxHFL5011 NVM Reset Procedure

Introduction

NVM (Non Volatile Memory) Reset Procedure overwrite the NVM memory area with a model specific NVM image that is usually loaded during the TV's assembly process.
The NVM image used is dictated by the LCD component (the front part of the TV that lit up and produces picture) used in the TV.
That's why different Philips HFL TV model WILL require different NVM files
Even 2 HFL TVs of the same model, with different serial number range may use different LCD types, and thus require different NVM files

NVM Reset Procedure on xxHFL5011 will wipe out all configuration from your TV, including TV channels and other settings.
After this procedure, you need to either reconfigure the TV or apply a Master clone file onto the TV

NVM Reset Procedure require the upgrade_loader.pkg which will update the TV's software to the upgrade_loader.pkg software version.

Check that the filename are precisely the following names:
NVM.BIN not NVM(1).bin or nvm.bin, etc
upgrade_loader.pkg, not Upgrade_loader.pkg or upgrade_loader(2).pkg, etc

Performing NVM Reset

  1. Power off TV (disconnect power to the TV)
  2. Insert the USB Drive into one of the USB Drive
      3. Power on TV (reconnect power to the TV) - you'll see "SW upgrade in progress" message on the TV within about 1-10 minutes
Sometimes the NVM Reset Procedure doesn't work with a particular USB Stick/USB Drive, but it works seamlessly with different USB Stick/Drive
Sometimes the NVM Reset Procedure works only with a certain USB Port in the TV (usually the non-blue colored USB Slot), but we've also experienced instances where it only works with the blue colored USB Slot.
Also, a field tech (Paul) reported that he needed to put the TV on Standby mode first before cutting power off and on to get NVM Reset Procedure to work, but we've also experienced that this procedure only work when the TV was running prior to the TV power being cut off and restored, so please try both method.
So.. if the above doesn't work, please try:
- changing the USB Interface where you plug in the USB Stick/drive to
- changing USB Stick/Drive to different USB Stick/Drive
- try to put the TV on standby first (IR light lit up) before doing step 3. (If IR is blinking all the time, then don't worry about this comment)
      4. Wait for about 15-20 minutes
      5. Using your remote, try to turn on the TV using the remote. If it does, remove the USB from the TV.
